So you’ve decided to create your own website. Congratulations!
But you really don’t know how to go about it.
You might be thinking, “What do I need to do? How do I go about setting up my website without paying a developer thousands of dollars? Is there an easier way of doing this?”
Don’t panic! Many people have been in your situation.
So many people think that web design is only for experts and ‘nerds who like to code’.
These days it is possible to create a website without even knowing one piece of code! (Of course knowing a bit of code helps!)
Try it out, and if you get stuck, do not fear, there’s plenty of information and help on the web.
Here is the first of seven steps you need to know before you create your own website:
1. Information gathering and research
Answer these simple questions before you start your new website:
What is the purpose or goal of my website?
Do I want to provide information? Promote my services? Sell my product?
What do I want to accomplish at the end of the day by building this website?
To make money? Share information? Share my passion for something? Create a platform for communication?
Do similar websites exist already?
Where can I add value for my potential customers or differentiate my website from those that already exist?
Is there a specific target audience that will help me reach my goals?
What kind of information will my target audience be looking for on my site? Will I also be implementing a social media strategy?
These are just some of the questions you should be asking yourself.
Remember: Make sure your goals are SMART!
